WOODBURY LEADERSHIP ACADEMY DRAMA CLUB FALL 2025

Thursdays After School – 2nd- 8th Grade

$109 – Register multiple kids at once for $99 each

  • Taught by Dayna Railton, Artistic Director of The Play’s The Thing Children’s Theatre Company.
  • Kids work together to bring a short play to life in a fun-filled setting.
  • We will learn the basic vocabulary of theatre, memorize lines, and put on a short wardrobe-style performance for a small audience of parents and invited guests.
  • 3:50pm – 4:00pm : Snack (bring a snack & water bottle)
  • 4:00pm – 5:00pm : Theatre games, dramatic arts training, script work
  • Term ending in a performance of an abbreviated play for invited audience.

Sept 11, 18, 25, Oct 2, 9, (not 16 or 23), 30, Nov 6, 13, 19 & 20. Please note the extra final dress rehearsal on Wednesday, Nov 19, and final performance for parents at 4:30 on Nov 20.

Class size: 10 min; 25 max

Wednesdays After School      2nd – 8th Grade

  • Taught by Thomas D. Nelson, owner of Big Blue Theatre and chess enthusiast.

  • Intro to Chess will teach kids the basics of Chess, along with each kid receiving their own Story Time Chess set to take home at the end of the term.

  • Chess Club is designed for kids who understand the basics of chess. Chess Club includes tournament play with a focus on sportsmanship and decorum. This course does not include a Story Time Chess set. If you would like to purchase a Story Time Chess set for your child, please sign up for the intro chess class, and email Barbe@merrillartscenter.org to be moved to Chess Club.

FALL SATURDAY CHESS CLUB

Summertime Chess Club Camp is designed for kids who understand the basics of chess and want a chance to get together with other kids in the summer to play. Tournament play with a focus on sportsmanship and decorum. Mentoring focuses on advancing knowledge of tactics and strategy. Taught by Thomas Nelson, Artistic Director of Big Blue Theater and longtime chess enthusiast.

Chess was originally designed by tutors to teach kings strategic thinking and logic. The Story Time Chess curriculum uses the original technique of looking at each piece as a theatrical character. Chess is taught in a simple & fun, engaging way that captivates kids. Multiple studies have shown that kids who play chess do better at math. Get your kids hooked on chess!

Ages 8 – 17 registration fee is $49.

This camp is at MAC 380 Rivertown Drive, Suite 200 in Woodbury
